My Journey with god

Growing up, I never imagined the path my life would take. My early years were steeped in tradition and ritual, yet it was a quiet, unexpected encounter with God that began to change everything. This is my story of faith, struggle, and grace—a journey that led me from the familiar smells of incense to the profound peace of knowing Christ.
Growing Up in a Traditional Home
I was born in 1980 in Singapore, into a family deeply rooted in Taoist and Buddhist traditions. Our home was filled with the scent of incense, especially on the 1st and 15th of the lunar month when we made offerings at the altar. I remember folding paper ingots carefully, a ritual passed down through generations. Spirituality, for me as a child, was something I only understood through television shows like Journey to the West, where the Monkey God and the Monk battled evil forces. It was a world of myth and legend, distant from anything personal or real.
The First Glimpse of God
My life took a subtle turn when I enrolled in a Methodist school near Geylang, a neighborhood known for its dangers and vice. Despite the rough surroundings, every morning we gathered for chapel sessions. Singing hymns in that quiet space brought me a sense of calm I had never known before. It was the first time I felt a peaceful presence, a quiet whisper of God’s love amid the noise and fear outside. Those moments were brief but powerful, planting a seed of hope deep inside me.
Finding Salvation and Seeing Prayer Answered
Years later, in 2004, I faced intense work stress that left me overwhelmed. On May 1, 2004, I found myself sitting in a pub with a Christian cousin, venting about my struggles. He challenged me to pray, to ask God for help. I hesitated but decided to pray for a new job. To my amazement, just two days later, I received a call for an interview—and was hired. This miracle opened the door to church attendance, and in 2005, I was baptized. It was a turning point, a clear answer to prayer that confirmed God’s presence in my life.

Struggling Yet Blessed
My spiritual journey was not without its challenges. I often felt like I was taking one step forward and three steps back. I drifted away from church, caught in battles I didn’t fully understand. Yet, God’s faithfulness never wavered. By 2013, He had blessed me with a wonderful wife, a beautiful daughter, and a home right next to Carmel Church. Despite these blessings, I still hesitated to step inside the church doors. I was grateful but distant, unsure of how to fully embrace the faith I had once touched.
A Wake-Up Call on Christmas Eve
Everything changed on December 24, 2013. An evil spirit visited our home, a frightening experience that shook me to my core. Recognizing this as a spiritual alarm, I reached out to the pastor of Carmel Church and asked him to pray over our house. Through God’s power, the spirit was cast out. That night marked a profound shift in my heart. I realized I could no longer stay on the sidelines. God was calling me to deeper faith and trust.
Coming Full Circle
Since that night, God’s grace has led all four members of my family to Christ. We have grown together in faith, learning to serve His kingdom and bring glory to His name. This journey has taught me that God’s love is patient and persistent, reaching into the darkest places to bring light and hope.
I am committed now to living fully for Him, grateful for every step that brought me here—from the altar offerings of my childhood to the powerful prayers that changed my life. My story is a reminder that no matter where we start, God’s grace can lead us home.
